Phyllis Norman is a founding member of Norman and Graves, LLC. Phyllis’ practice focuses on personal injury, class action and mass tort litigation. Over the past 14 years, Phyllis has obtained numerous favorable settlements and verdicts in both personal injury and class action cases. She has litigated cases at both the trial court and appellate court levels, In Federal and State Court, and before the National Association of Securities Dealers and the American Arbitration Association.
Phyllis has been named Young Lawyer of the Year, Top 40 under 40 by the National Trial Lawyers, and Top 50 Missouri and Kansas Women Lawyers by Super Lawyers. Most recently, Phyllis was awarded the Thomas J. Conway award by KCMBA in May 2016 which is awarded to a lawyer who exemplifies outstanding trial skills and the ability to be a fierce advocate, while simultaneously a good friend to opposing counsel. Phyllis has also been recognized by KCMBA as Young Lawyer of the Year, Missouri Lawyers Weekly as a “Rising Star” Women Justice Award recipient and “Up and Coming” Lawyer, SuperLawyers as one of the Top 50 Missouri and Kansas Women Lawyers, National Trial Lawyers as Top 100 Trial Lawyers and Top 40 Under 40, UMKC School of Law as the “Decade Award” recipient, and Association of Women Lawyers -KC as the first, and only, recipient of the “Diamond Award” recognizing my commitment to the legal community.
Phyllis started her career working for a boutique firm dealing primarily in class action litigation where she worked to obtain over $100 million in results for class action participants, including being involved in one of the largest wage and hour class action settlements in the state of Missouri. In 2009, she moved to one of Kansas City’s most prestigious plaintiffs’ law firms – Langdon & Emison where she represented clients in large product liability litigation, personal injury litigation, class action and mass tort litigation. Phyllis worked to obtain two product liability verdicts totaling $31 million dollars and obtained numerous settlements on behalf of clients.
Phyllis’ success as a contingency lawyer was no accident — she worked hard to become such an accomplished professional. She is also involved in many legal board of director positions and is the past- President of the Association of Women Lawyers Kansas City. She is a regular contributor to nonprofit organizations dedicated to charitable giving or the legal profession.
